ACADEMIC PUSH - MU nod to ad hoc boards of studies, faculty heads

After months of delay in sanctioning research proposals and framing syllabus for the coming academic year, the Mumbai University on Wednesday formed ad hoc boards of studies and appointed faculty coordinators to ensure academic work at the university does not suffer in the absence of legislation.

At a meeting on Wednesday , vice-chancellor Sanjay Deshmukh, appointed col lege principals as coordinators for five faculties in place of the deans. Vijay Joshi of K J Somaiya College was appointed as the science coordinator, M S Kurhade from DTSS College (for arts), S T Gadade (for commerce), SK Ukrande (for technology), Rajeev Mishra (for fine arts) were also appointed. While management education was always included under the commerce faculty , the universi ty appointed director of Welingkar Institute, Uday Salunkhe, as coordinator for the boards of management.

“These individuals will perform functions of deans of faculties and lead ad hoc research and recognition committees and syllabus panels. The new team will ensure that no academic work suffers. Their tenure continues till the new Universities' Act comes into force and new deans are appointed,“ said registrar, M A Khan.
