Just 2 books in Mahasabha's Godse `library' in Meerut

Just 2 books in Mahasabha's Godse `library' in Meerut

After a failed attempt to erect the first Nathuram Godse bust in the country at their office on Meerut's Sharda Road, Akhil Bharatiya Hindu Mahasabha members estab lished a `library' in the premises, dedicated to the man who killed Mahatma Gandhi on January 30, 1948. What is unique about this library is that it is more warehouse than library-there are two books in it, with 100 copies of each.

The `library' is home to 100 copies of assassin Nathuram Godse's `Gandhi Vadh Kyu?' (Why Gandhi was killed) and 100 copies of his brother Gopal Godse's `Gandhi Vadh aur main' (Gandhi's assassination and I). The `library' was thrown open to the public on Sunday .The Hindu outfit leaders had tried to install a bust of Nathuram Godse in their office on January 30 this year (to mark the anniversary of the assassina tion). Police intervened in time to foil the attempt.

Though the library was inaugurated by Madan Acharya, national general secretary of Hindu Mahasabha on Saturday , it was only on Sunday that Hindu Mahasabha leaders spoke of it. Leaders reportedly feared that if police got wind of their plans, their `library' would not see the light of day . Pandit Ashok Kumar Sharma, member of the central working body of Hindu Mahasabha, said, “Police intervened in our attempt to estab lish a Godse bust. Though the matter is pending in Allahabad HC, we thought we could set up a library , at least. That way, people will learn about Godse and his rationale. Let people decide after reading whether Gandhivaad (Gandhi's way) is true or Godse vaad (Godse's way).“

Asked about funds for this initiative, Sharma, said, “ All the books were donated by Hindu Mahasabha leaders from across the country . No money has been spent. But yes, because the books are limited and are difficult to find, we will request readers either to read them inside the library or deposit a security , equiv alent to the price of the book, if they want to take it home.“
