Know the life story of Guru Teg Bahadur

Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji was born in Amritsar city of Punjab. He was the fifth son of Guru Hargobind ji. Due to the premature death of his grandson 'Harikrishna Rai', the eighth Guru was made the ninth Guru by public opinion. He built Anandpur Sahib and started living there. His childhood name was Tyagmal. At the age of just 14, he showed valor in the war against his father against the attack of the Mughals.

Impressed by his valor, his father named him Tegh Bahadur (Rich of the sword) from Tyagmal. The horrific bloodshed in the battlefield had a profound effect on the reclusive mind of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji and his mind turned towards spiritual contemplation. Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji, the idol of patience, quietness and sacrifice, practiced in solitude at a place called 'Baba Bakala' for 20 years. Eighth Guru Harkishen Ji instructed 'Baba Bakale' to name his successor.

Guruji visited many places to spread religion. They reached Khiala (Khadal) from Anandpur Sahib via Kiratpur, Planting, Saifabad. While preaching here, he reached Kurukshetra via Damdama sahib. From Kurukshetra reached Kadamanakpur via the banks of the Yamuna and it was here that he saved Sadhu Bhai Malukdas.

Guru Tegh Bahadur went to Prayag, Benaras, Patna, Assam etc. areas where he did creative work for spiritual, social, economic, upliftment. Share the knowledge of spirituality, religion. Criticized stereotypes, superstitions and established new ideals. He also worked for the construction of wells, dharamshalas etc. for philanthropy. In these journeys, a son was born to Guruji in 1666 at Patna Sahib. Who became the tenth Guru- Guru Govind Singh.

Guru Tegh Bahadur is considered the ninth Guru of the Sikhs. It is a matter of the reign of Aurangzeb. In the court of Aurangzeb, a scholar Pandit used to read verses of the Gita daily and recite its meaning, but he would leave some of the verses in the Gita. One day the Pandit became ill and sent his son to tell Aurangzeb the Gita, but forgot to tell him which verses he was not supposed to reveal to the king.
