SSC pass percentage of schools to now include Class IX results

SSC pass percentage of schools to now include Class IX results

Education dept move aims to stop schools from failing students in Class IX to achieve good pass percentage.

In order to stop schools from intentionally failing students in standard IX in order to achieve perfect pass percentage for the Secondary School Certificate examination, the education department has now announced that the average pass percentage of a school will take into account their Class IX results as well.

The education department hopes this will stop schools from failing students or asking them to appear as external students in Class IX.
The rule will come into force from the next academic year of 2016-17.

State Education Commissioner Purshottam Bhapkar said the department had been receiving complaints from parents about schools deliberately detaining students in Class IX for ensuring a good pass percentage for Class X.

“A formula has now been worked out which will take into consideration the class IX and X pass percentage to reflect the overall performance of the school,” Bhapkar said.

An expert committee would work out the modalities of the method and guide the schools accordingly.
