Students will now take EVS exam annually
Starting this academic
year, Class XI and XII students of the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and
Higher Secondary Education will have to submit a project and give an exam for
the environmental sciences (EVS) only once a year as opposed to once each
semester.
EVS is a compulsory subject
for state board students which carries 50 marks -students had to submit a
project for 30 marks and 20 marks for a presentation or journal assignment.
Students would have to do this once in both semesters and would be marked in
the board examination on basis of the average of both semesters.
The students were marked by
examiners from the junior college itself.
However, from 2015-2016,
students would have only one project and journal assignment. Of the total 50
marks, they will be marked out of 30 marks by an internal examiner and 20 marks
by an external examiner. The board has also introduced marking by an external
examiner after instances came to light that the colleges were being very
lenient with their students.
In addition to the project
submitted, the external examiners will evaluate the students through an oral
examination.
